Announcing the Winners of the
in aid of Cobh Youth Services

A bit of wind could not keep away supporters of Cobh’s Barrack Hill Ball Run as thousands of coloured balls made their way down the ‘Deck of Cards’ in aid of Cobh Youth Services on bank holiday Monday, 3rd of August.

The event once again attracted local residents and visitors from surrounding areas to Cobh with hundreds of children and adults joining in to see whose winning numbers would make it over the finish line first to win the cash prizes up for grabs.

Thanks to the generous support of the public, the event raised €12,550 for Cobh Youth Services and brought smiles to the winners and spectators alike. The lucky winners on the day were Grace Russell from Cobh (1st prize of €500.00), Ellen McAuliffe from Clarecastle (2nd prize of €300.00), Darren Sylvester from Cobh (3rd prize of €200.00) and Steve Palmer from West Beach Cobh (4th prize of €100.00).

Cobh Youth Services Programme Co-Ordinator, Sinead Morgan says: “We’re delighted with the outcome as it means we can continue to offer our after school services to the 30 plus children currently benefiting from activities like art and crafts, drama, games and sports in our sport centre, Mount Crozier. We can hopefully also make a start on our plans for an Outreach Service to the teenagers living on the Great Island.”

Originated by Mr Paddy Histon, the Barrack Hill Ball Run has raised over €90,000 to date for various charities since its inception nine years ago. While there are too many to mention everyone, the event’s organising committee would like to express their thanks to everyone who gave their help and assistance, from those who participated to those who volunteered or contributed to its overall success. Special thanks also to all the enthusiastic children who helped with the mammoth task of gathering all the balls at the end of the event.
